Besides your home itself, your central air conditioning unit may be the largest investment you make for your home.
When you are ready to purchase a new air conditioning unit, what should you look for? Choosing a new system does not have to be a chore and Anchor Heating and Air Conditioning is here to help.
There are three major items to consider when deciding on a new AC system: SEER rating, size of the unit, and service during and after the sale.
What is a SEER rating?
SEER means Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. You want the SEER rating for the system you choose to be high. The higher the number is the higher the cooling efficiency will be for that unit. A higher cooling efficiency will give you greater savings on your energy bill. Government regulations require all new models to have a SEER rating of at least 13. Anchor Heating and Air Conditioning offer air conditioning units up to 19.5 SEER.
What is the size of the unit?
Determining the correct size for an AC unit for your home is another key issue that should be addressed before purchasing a system. Some people believe that the bigger the unit, the better. But that is just not true. Buying a bigger unit than you need not only will cost you more up front, but it will actually make you less comfortable, cost you more on a monthly basis, and wear out more quickly because it will turn on and off too often to perform optimally.
Anchor's equipment is engineered to fit specific spaces. The correct size is determined by something called BTU’s, or British Thermal Units. Your system removes heat that is expressed as BTUs. A one ton air conditioner will remove 12,000 BTUs of heat in an hour. Sounds complicated, but we know exactly how to figure out what size unit you need and can explain why.
