By now, you have probably heard of geothermal heating and cooling. It’s a pretty simple concept! Basically, geothermal systems capture the energy from the sun in a series of pipe buried in the ground. In the winter months, heat from the ground is transferred to the fluid that is in the pipes and then into your home where it is translated as warm, comfortable air. In the warmer summer months, it’s reversed. Heat from the home is transferred to the fluid in the pips and is carried into the earth where the heat is released. As a result, you get cool, dry air in your home. This same energy can also heat your household water.

Now that we have explained the basics, let’s talk about 3 things about geothermal heating and cooling that you might not know about:

  1. Good for the environment: Geothermal systems use heat from the ground instead of fossil fuels that pollute the air your family breathes. WaterFurnace systems do not emit dangerous carbon monoxide or greenhouse gases and have no flames, fumes, or odors. The Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium says that current geothermal installations save over 14 million barrels or crude oil every year. And because the only energy needed to run geothermal systems is a small amount of electricity, they reduce the need for new coal-powered electric plants, which means cleaner air and less acid rain. Think of your geothermal system as the equivalent of planting 750 trees or taking two cars off of the road. The sun provides more than enough energy for all of mankind.
  2. Saves you money: While geothermal systems have a higher initial cost than other heating and cooling systems, geothermal systems have higher efficiency (300-400%) than any ordinary system. You can save up to 60% on your energy bills!
  3. Can work for any home: We have over 600 geothermal installations under our belt. Without a doubt, we are one of the leaders in geothermal heating and air conditioning in Georgia. We can outfit any home—small, large, new or old!
