We recently talked about ways you can save money on your air conditioning bill this spring and summer, so let’s take a look at how you can conserve water and save on your water bill.
- Check for leaks: If you have leaky faucets or pipes, not only can lead to major problems, but it is costing you money on your monthly bills. According to the size of the leak, you could be wasting several gallons of water a day. If you know where you are leaking water, but are unable to get it fixed immediately, use a bucket to collect the water and use it for watering your indoor plants!
- Don’t flush trash: We’ve all done it before—used a tissue to blow our nose and then flushed it, but we shouldn’t make a habit of this. Make sure you have wastebaskets available in your bathrooms so people can throw their tissues or other trash in the garbage instead of wasting water to flush it.
- Cut your shower time down: We get it—we all sound like American Idol winners in the shower, but if you want to conserve water and save on your bills, save the karaoke for later and take a quicker shower.
- Turn the water off when you brush your teeth: It’s easy to forget this one, but it’s a good habit to develop. Turning the water off while you are brushing your teeth can save a lot of water over the weeks and months.
- Wait until it’s full: Wait until you have a full load of clothes or dishes before you run your washer or dishwasher. Even when you change the settings for smaller loads, it will still save you water usage if you wait until you can run a full load.
