Is it time for an upgrade? Call Anchor today!

Spring has definitely sprung and the temperatures are rising every day. Here’s the question everyone asks this time of year – "when do I turn on the air conditioning?"

If you haven’t turned on your AC yet this season, you will soon enough. Although opening your windows to feel the evening breeze may feel good now, sticky, hot, humid air is on the horizon. And if you are suffering from seasonal allergies, opening your windows is the absolute last thing you want to do right now. Here are a few tips to make sure your HVAC system is ready before you turn on the AC this spring.

1. CHANGE AIR FILTERS – Hopefully you have been changing your air filters as recommended to reduce the dust released in the air. If you haven’t, you are putting your HVAC into jeopardy of breaking down. Change the filter immediately and have one of our comfort specialists check any damage inflicted on your unit.

2. CLEAN OUTDOOR UNIT – Make sure the airflow is clear of any obstacles such as trees, bushes, shrubs, debris, etc. Using a soft brush gently remove dirt or debris that may have accumulated outside of the unit. Be sure to turn off the thermostat before attempting to clean the unit. Trim back any trees, bushes or shrubs that may have grown and are in danger of touching the unit.

3. SCHEDULE A TUNE-UP WITH THE PROFESSIONALS – While there are other tips to help get your AC ready, such as cleaning indoor ductwork and checking the fan belts on the outdoor unit, we highly recommend you contact us to schedule an appointment for a tune-up. A professional possesses the right tools, knowledge and skills to address any problems before they become larger. And if your unit is over 10 years old, a new, more efficient model may be recommended to help you save money on cooling costs this summer. The cost of the tune-up is a minimal investment to help prolong the life of your system for many years to come.
